Friday, March 4 Join us at Cookeville Square to Pray and Protest for Peace in Ukraine

Pray and Protest for Peace, On Friday, March 4 at 4pm in Cookeville Square We call on all people of good will from across the Upper Cumberland region of Tennessee, to join us as we pray and protest for peace. Our rally and vigil will take place on Friday, March 4, 2022 at 4pm on the Cookeville Square. We stand in solidarity with victims of violence everywhere, but especially with the brave people of Ukraine, as they stare down an aggressive invasion and possible occupation. We stand in solidarity with courageous protesters across Russia who are saying NO to this immoral war. We also extend solidarity and love to all victims of war, violence, and totalitarian domination that are not making current headlines, including people in Yemen, Syria, Somalia, Myanmar, Gaza, and elsewhere. We also stand with people everywhere who are ready to live in a Beloved Community of peace with justice, where all basic human needs are met with shared resources, the earth is restored and repaired, and all wars have ceased. We believe we can live in a world without this war and without war at all. We invite friends from all backgrounds, including faith leaders and people whose faith is in humanity itself. We share the courageous and uncommon hope articulated by activist and author Shane Claiborne this week, when he wrote: “There is another way. We who believe in peace must be as courageous and as organized as those who believe in war. Peacemaking does not mean passivity. Peacemaking is the active resistance of violence, but not on its own terms. Peacemaking is about interrupting injustice without mirroring injustice, resisting oppressors without becoming oppressors, neutralizing enemies without destroying them.” church is a congregation of the United Church of Christ dedicated to the teachings and ministry of Jesus Christ. We are a Just-Peace, Open and Affirming, Whole Earth congregation, welcoming all God's children into our ministry of peacemaking, compassionate living, environmental consciousness, and extravagant welcome. No matter who you are, no matter where you are on life's journey, you're welcome here!
